Why We Use Herbs in Our Formulations

As a naturopath, I've seen firsthand how herbs can profoundly impact people’s health.

Their multifunctional abilities never cease to amaze me; often providing healing benefits with minimal or no side effects. Traditional herbs have been used for thousands of years across many cultures to support health and vitality, they’re renowned for their therapeutic properties and offer natural alternatives to modern medicine which tend to address isolated issues and often bring numerous side effects. Conventional treatments frequently target symptoms rather than the root cause, while herbs support the body in a more balanced and integrated way.

Many of our products contain herbs. For example adaptogens for stress (MULTI-TASKER), anti-anxiety herbs for anxiety and sleep (SLEEP) as well as liver herbs (CLEANSE) for helping the body cleanse and stay optimised.

ADAPTOGENS

Adaptogenic herbs help the body adapt to stress by balancing physiological processes and promoting homeostasis. Used in traditional medicine, these herbs regulate the HPA axis, maintaining balanced cortisol levels, and supporting the body’s stress response.

Adaptogens like Rhodiola and Ashwagandha influence neurotransmitters, promoting calm and focus. They also enhance cellular energy, reduce inflammation, and balance hormones, helping the body resist both physical and psychological stress.

Our favourite adaptogens include Ashwagandha for anxiety reduction, Rhodiola for improving endurance and mood as well as reducing mental fatigue and Siberian Ginseng for immune function and mental alertness.

Overall, adaptogens support resilience and well-being, helping the body handle stress effectively, which we all need in this day and age.

MULTI-TASKER contains Ashwagandha, Siberian Ginseng and Rhodiola.

SLEEP AND ANXIETY HERBS

Sleep herbs like Passionflower, Ziziphus, and California Poppy provide natural support for restful sleep. Passionflower reduces anxiety by increasing GABA levels, promoting relaxation and helping ease into sleep.

Ziziphus has calming properties, reduces cortisol, and supports deeper, more restorative sleep.

California Poppy is mildly sedative, easing nervousness and reducing sleep onset time without morning grogginess. Together, these herbs help improve sleep quality by calming the nervous system, reducing stress, and promoting relaxation, making them gentle, effective alternatives for people experiencing insomnia or disrupted sleep patterns.

SLEEP has been formulated to be used during the day for mild anxiety and at night to help falling asleep quicker and staying asleep.

LIVER AND DIGESTIVE HERBS

Milk Thistle and Globe Artichoke are complementary liver-supportive herbs. Milk Thistle, containing the powerful antioxidant silymarin, protects liver cells from toxins, reduces inflammation, and promotes cell regeneration, making it beneficial for detoxifying the liver and potentially repairing damage from conditions like fatty liver disease. Globe Artichoke enhances bile production, aiding in waste elimination and fat digestion, while also offering antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that protect liver cells, lower cholesterol, and support overall digestive health. Together, these herbs enhance liver function, support detoxification, and protect against liver damage.

Rosemary is used to reduce indigestion and flatulence as well as improving memory.

CLEANSE contains Milk Thistle, Globe Artichoke and Rosemary.

Herbs can be a great way to gently get the body back on track and support it during times of stress, less than optimal nutrition or to reduce anxiety and help improve sleep quality.
